Namtso is an extremely beautiful lake with turquoise blue water which is situated at an altitude of 4718 m.

Hiking excursion to Namtso Lake is getting popular among visitors in Tibet. The lake is 70 km long and 30 km wide and is the biggest salt water lake in Tibet.

It has the Nyechen Tangla mountain range (7000m peaks) on its back ground to enhance its beauty. The wide open space around the lake, dotted with the tents of local nomads is interesting to see.

The 190 km drive from Lhasa to Namtso lake involves the high Yangpachen pass (5630m), so proper acclimatization is very important to do this hike successfully. No one should ever take this trip lightly because of the short distance it possesses.
